I learned a valuable lesson this past weekend. Summer is supposed to be the time you take vacation and spend a lot of time goofing off. Well, this summer, we spent a lot of our time on baseball. My son will be a senior and wants to play in college. We had to make sure he played and trained in areas that would get him noticed.
Even though we have a wonderful vacation planned for this fall, I’ve been a bit bummed that we haven’t been able to do something this summer. Then, this past weekend we decided to take a one-day vacation. It was the only weekend we didn’t have to go to something related to baseball. I never thought a one-day vacation could be as good as a vacation that lasts longer.
On Saturday, we went to Ruby Falls and Rock City in Lookout Mountain, TN. Going 1,000 feet into the earth to see an underground waterfall was so refreshing and rejuvenating. Then walking the trail at Rock City through gardens and underground fairy trails was so magical. We were surrounded by natural beauty the entire time. I can’t believe how relieved and stress free I felt after. I never thought one day away from it all could be so wonderful.
If you don’t have time for a vacation that lasts more than a day or two, make the most of it anyway. Any time away from the daily stresses of life is better than none at all. There are so many fun and exciting things you can do in a day. Make the most of any time off you have. You’ll be surprised how good it can feel.
If you can’t get away in the near future, take a moment to enjoy my one-day vacation. I uploaded pictures from both places to my Facebook page. Take a look and relax for a few minutes. Then make plans for a day away as soon as possible. I know I will.
