Congratulations! You’ve hired a Virtual Assistant and delegated all those tasks you didn’t want to do. Are you truly relieved? Has more “busy” work “magically” appeared now that you have done that? Does that happen with any change in your routine or life?
If more work seems to appear as you delegate to a VA or when you make other changes to your routine, take some time to look at that to-do list again. Chances are you missed some things the first go round or you are in the bad habit of “being busy.”
If you find yourself working and slaving even though you’ve given tasks to you Virtual Assistant, take time to really look at your to-do list and daily activities. Some people have tasks on their list that they find difficult to let go of no matter how much they dislike doing it. Take time to evaluate your to-do list regularly to be sure you are not doing just that. Delegate EVERYTHING you can in order to spend more time focused on the business, yourself and your friends and family members.
Have you changed your routine to make things easier? Did it work? If changing your routine did not make life and work easier, take time to “stop, look, and listen.” Some people feel like they have to be busy every minute of every day. They will delegate some things to their VA, but hang onto others or even create new things to do just to stay busy. If you see that happening, make a concerted effort to get rid of the busy work by letting it go or delegating it as well.
As a business owner, your job is to work on the business not in it. You are only supposed to do the work you enjoy, are good at and that will increase your income. You need time for yourself as well. If more work “magically” appears when you delegate things or change your routine to accommodate your work, take time to look at your to-do list, your daily activities and talk to your Virtual Assistant. Together you two can find the way to break the cycle.
