In the dog days of summer, it can be very hard to stay focused on your work when there are so many fun things you could be doing (beach, anyone?). But your business can’t run itself. Please enjoy my top three tips for keeping yourself in work mode during business hours so you can make the most of your weekends:
- Protect yourself from distraction. Limit snack breaks, schedule email time, and stay away from Facebook! Reward yourself with these when you’ve completed a good chunk of work first.
- Let others know when you’re unavailable. Tell clients, colleagues and vendors in advance that you will not be able to respond to their needs and give them a set period of time. Remember to let them know when you will be available again.
- Break it down. Dismantling a giant project into smaller tasks helps you feel less overwhelmed than when you have a huge mountain of work looming over you. Set specific limits on the amount of time you have to complete each task, so you have a mini deadline that isn’t the scary final one.
But what if you need more help? No problem. A virtual assistant can handle your communications, help you prioritize, and plan out your workload. She can even set up reminders in your calendar for deadlines in advance so you’re always on track.
