Every entrepreneur is all too familiar with the phenomenon of working late, working weekends, missing out on family time, and getting too little R&R. But there are a few good secrets you can use to squeeze out a little more time from each day, and I don’t mean waking up earlier or staying up late!
So what’s the big idea? It’s pretty simple, actually: organization. Here are my four favorite tips for getting more out of every day.
Create a System
Don’t ever, ever, ever reinvent the wheel. It’s a waste of time. If you have to do anything more than once, it pays to systematize.
Buy, borrow or create templates for documents you use frequently in order to streamline client paperwork and vendor contracts. Invest in standalone and online apps like Basecamp or Asana to plan, track and manage communications within projects and among team members.
Make a Plan
Plot your day into blocks of discrete times for work, lunch, meetings, and media (email, social media, phone calls, etc.). Be sure to include downtime and remember that it’s essential to keep each block separate.
Without any structure, your day can devolve into confusion and wasted hours. When you stick to a plan, your attention will remain focused and you’ll get more done.
Speaking of focus, it’s essential to get rid of distractions. Turn off the TV, email alerts, your phone ringer, and social media.
Your daily plan can include plenty of time for these tasks, but don’t respond to every beep and ping. You’ll be so much better able to stay on task.
Make Someone Else Deal With It!
If you’re not good at managing your time, an online business manager can help you keep on track. She can create operations and performance schedules for you as well as your team members.
