How To Decide Which Management Tasks To Delegate To Your OBM

April 21, 2017 by sophiezo Leave a Comment

Delegation is essential for many modern business owners. After all, if you try and take on all of the executive challenges involved with running a business alone, then chances are that you’ll end up making a mistake somewhere along the path to success. On the other hand, when you remove some of those management tasks from your to-do list, you can give yourself time to focus on the things that simply can’t be sent elsewhere.

Delegation gives you space to focus on opportunities for profit-generation, self-improvement, and even better work/life balance. However, many entrepreneurs and ambitious business owners find it tough to hand the reigns over to someone else. Fortunately, the following tips should help you to determine what you might need to delegate to your OBM and what you should hold onto.

The Most Frequently Delegated Tasks

The tasks that are most commonly delegated in a business environment include:

  • Everyday tasks – Tasks that require a certain level of expertise. Here, you might need a contractor or freelancer to help you. Everyday tasks are not suited to the skills of an OBM, who is responsible for management tasks only.
  • People management tasks – These are just some of the things that an OBM can help you with, from scheduling team meetings to ensuring tasks get done.
  • Business management tasks – These are the challenges that entrepreneurs often struggle to let go of. However, they can be shared with your OBM to open up more free time in your business.

Where To Begin

So, how do you start figuring out where you’re going to let your OBM take over? The answer comes from asking yourself a few important questions. For instance:

  • What are your strengths – which management tasks are you most efficient at?
  • What are your weaknesses – where do you struggle to manage your time effectively or often find yourself in need of help when coordinating people and projects?
  • Which of the challenges in management are you passionate and enthusiastic about?
  • Where do you spend the majority of your time when it comes to management issues?
  • Are there any OBM-level tasks that you are uncomfortable doing yourself?

For most business owners, it makes sense to ask an OBM for assistance with the elements of managing a business that they struggle with, feel dispassionate about, or find themselves spending too much time focusing on. However, remember that online business managers are there to help you manage your team, operations, projects, and other high-impact factors of your business. For instance, while they’re not the professionals you use to answer emails, they can make sure that your business team knows how to handle clients’ emails.

We’ve been working with Sophie Zollmann for almost half a year now, building an online lifelong learning platform and community from the ground up (because in-person classes became impossible in light of the corona virus). Sophie has guided every technical aspect of this enterprise including the construction of landing-pages and websites, the management of mailing lists and revenue funnels, setting up Zoom meetings, etc., allowing us to focus exclusively on content production and marketing. This platform is now off the ground and succeeding beyond our wildest hopes.

We couldn’t have built it without Sophie’s support, which has always been prompt and timely, and her guidance, as she’s always pointed us to the most efficient and economical solutions to whatever technical issue we’ve faced. In the heat of the moment, I’m sure we’ve not always been easy to work with, but Sophie has also been generous and understanding to a fault. In sum, her support has been flawless and absolutely essential to the success of our online enterprise. We will be relying on her services again as we ramp up for our next phase of growth.
