Some days are awesome. Everything falls into place, you’re in your flow, and you feel like you are WINNING at business and life.
Other days are a complete dumpster fire.
I wish I had some piece of advice that would eliminate those shitshow days altogether, but let’s be honest- that’s just a part of life. Luckily, I DO have some advice that will minimize the chaos and give you more of those awesome, on top of the world days!
Here are 3 things that regularly save my day:
- A Great Morning Routine
A solid morning routine sets the foundation for an awesome day. It gets you prepared, focused, and ready to tackle whatever life might throw at you.
There’s no set-in-stone morning routine that works for everyone. You have to devise a plan that suits your life. Pick a wake-up time that ensures you’re getting plenty of sleep and give yourself a few minutes to start the day doing something you love. Maybe you want to read, or do a crossword puzzle, or meditate while you’re enjoying your coffee. A peaceful start to the day enhances your focus, makes you feel prepared, and gets you ready to make the most of your workday. - Planning Ahead
A great morning starts the night before! Before I call it a day, I run through my list of tasks, check off the ones that are completed, and update the ones that are still in progress. I check my email to make sure there are no fires that need to be put out immediately, prioritize my tasks for the next day, then I step away from my desk.
I set my evenings aside for ME. That’s when I relax, spend time with my family, and recharge. I let my brain settle from the day so that I won’t be kept awake by work worries or upcoming tasks. - Taking Breaks
I know, I know – it feels you have a million tasks that HAVE to get done or the entire world will implode, but that mindset is counterproductive! When you’re frazzled and fried, you’re not doing your best work, or making solid decisions.
When you’re feeling overloaded or frustrated that’s a sign that your brain NEEDS a break. Stop what you’re doing and take 10-15 minutes to breathe and reset. Stand outside and enjoy the sunshine, go for a short walk, or do some stretches to relieve tension.
If you’re one of those people that gets hyperfocused on work, you might need to set a timer to remind yourself to take a break. Give yourself a brain break every hour or two and I promise you will be more relaxed, more focused, and more productive.
