Referrals are the best way to build your client base. After all, potential clients are far more likely to choose your business when it’s been recommended by someone they know and trust. Plus, you’ll have secured a reputation as someone who provides excellent service before you even have your initial meeting with a prospective customer!

Referrals are good for business, but how do you go about getting them? Check out these tips for keeping your customers happy and getting great referrals:

Provide outstanding service

It seems obvious, but it’s the foundation of great reviews and referrals. Don’t be satisfied with meeting your customers’ expectations- strive to exceed them.

Know when to ask

Don’t automatically ask for reviews at the conclusion of a sale. Wait for the right time. Follow up later to make sure they’re happy with their experience and might be willing to provide a review. If they reach out to you with positive feedback, that’s a great time to ask them to leave a review or give a referral.

Use your social media

LinkedIn is particularly effective at expanding your network and introducing you to potential clients.

Offer share-worthy content

Shared content can act as a referral of sorts. When potential clients see your brand popping up frequently in their newsfeeds, it will make them more likely to consider your business for products and services in the future.

Make it easy to give reviews or referrals

You can provide a list of basic questions to help guide reviews or offer a simple template for referrals.

Reward referrals

Offer discounts or exclusive deals to clients that give referrals.

Return the favor

Refer colleagues to your business-owning clients. They’ll appreciate it and be glad to do the same for you!

Focus on building long-term relationships

Your relationships with your clients shouldn’t end at the point of sale. Build long-term loyalty by following up and reaching out regularly. That makes your existing clients far more likely to refer you to others down the road.
